Project Overview

As seen in the envoy from Goguryeo  depicted on a mural paintings of Afrasiab, Korea and Uzbekistan have interacted with one another over a thousand years. The Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation is carrying out ODA projects for the Afrasiab Museum of Samarkand and institutions related to cultural heritage from 2020 to 2021, in order to foster and empower experts related to conservation and utilization of cultural heritage of the nation. To obtain synergistic effects, the Foundation performs the project in cooperation with the Cultural Heritage Administration and the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of Korea and on the basis of close working relationships with related institutions in Uzbekistan such as the Ministry of Culture, museums, and the Institute for Archaeology.

The Foundation offers capacity building programs for experts on cultural heritage in Uzbekistan through invitational training in Korea and local technical training. This is to support the nation so that it can actively preserve the cultural assets and establish policies on its own.

Manuals for Conservation Process

The Foundation is producing manuals for conservation processes dealing with bronze, iron, stone, and pottery & earthenware, the four materials occupying a significant proportion of cultural assets. It is currently making audio-visual materials with well-defined video clips and demonstrations, rather than books. They will contain the entire processes of preservation so that it is easy to follow.
