Main Activities

Purpose

The purpose of the Foundation is to protect and preserve Korean cultural properties, develop them in a creative manner, and propagate and utilize them, so that Korean traditional culture is preserved and enhanced (Article 3 of the Articles of Foundation)

  • The Traditional Ceremony Reproduction Project

    The CHF exerts itself to inform its visitors of the various and beautiful Korean traditional culture through excavation and research in order to revive Korean traditional culture such as court ceremonies in Joseon Dynasty.

    Korean traditional music performed by featuring maestros (or group) and various ICH holders held in Training Center for Important Cultural Properties, Korea Cultural House(KOUS), and Korea House can be enjoyed.

Traditional Performances

  • Works of art of possessors of crafts are regularly exhibited such that important intangible cultural properties designated by the country are promoted and utilized as a place for education, and special performances and performance tours are provided such that excellent craftsmen in various fields participate in them.

Exhibition of Traditional Craftwork

The Foundation develops and operates Korean traditional culture experience programs for elementary, middle and high school students as well as the general public at Training Center for Important Cultural Properties, Korea Cultural House and Korea House

  • It is an educational course for searching for identity of traditional culture by utilizing continuing education based on cultural relics, and preservation, transmission and understanding of traditional culture.

Experience of Art: Samulnori (traditional music played by musicians), Janggu (Korean traditional drum), Danso (a short bamboo flute), Talchum (a mask dance), Pungmul (instrumental music), Korean dance, tea ceremony, and Taekgyeon (traditional martial art) Experience of Crafts: Dancheong (ornamental painting), Maedeup (knot-tying), Chimseon (sewing), and Hanji (Korean traditional paper) Experience of Foods: Kimchi, Bibimbap (boiled rice with assorted mixtures), etc.

Publication of cultural relic news, and 30 kinds of books in the field of craft art, art, traditional foods, cultural relics, and life act as guide to our culture.

Korea House commercializes and propagates royal cuisine that is the standard of Korean traditional foods.

Traditional Wedding Ceremony

The traditional wedding ceremony provided by Korea House has been revived as it was since 1982 for the purpose of propagation of life culture. The wedding ceremony is held in the yard of the main building of Korea House, and will provide unforgettable memories.
The unique technique of Korean traditional craftwork is transmitted, and traditional patterns are applied to be harmonized with the modern lifestyle, so that creative tourism cultural goods are developed and propagated.

Estabilishment Initiative for the Intangible Heritage Center for Asia-Pacific

The CHF is the UNESCO-accredited NGO for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in June 2010. The CHF has been devoted to the international cooperation for the protection of intangible cultural heritage. Recently, the foundation organised and hosted an international events.
The organization plans to be engaged in the activities related with the management of the Urgent Safeguarding List and advisory services on the international support for the protection of international intangible cultural heritage.

Cultural Property Survey and Research

  • Cultural Property Investigation and Research Team conducts archeological surveys, trial digging and excavation of remains, scientifically preserves the remains and issues academic reports.

    Membership Fee: 20 thousand won (valid for 2 years from joining)
