“Palace Job Diaries”

The Palace Job Diaries program for the 2024 Spring Children's K-Royal Culture Festival is a job experience program for children. Children can experience various jobs in the palace and learn about the wisdom and way of life of the ancestors. An activity book is provided for the program. The program aims to offer the time for reflection on the value and meaning of history with hands-on activities at the palaces.

Program Information

1) Experiences (reservation may be required)

(Royal Cook)> Make a court lunchbox using clay * Reservation

- Location: Field by Myeongjeongjeon Hall

- Time: 11:00/13:00/15:00/16:00(40 minutes)

- Target: Recommended for ages 6 and up

- Capacity: 30 persons per session


(Physician Officer)> Learn about diagnosing and pack yakcheop (medicine) for each symptom Reservation

- Location: Yanghwadang Hall

- Time: 10:00/12:00/14:00/16:00(40 minutes)

- Target: Recommended for primary grades and up

- Capacity: 30 persons per session


(Court Painter)> Complete the royal banquet uigwe (protocol records) * On-site

- Location: Tongmyeongjeon Hall

- Time: 10:00 - 17:00(anytime) (30 minutes)

- Target: Recommended for ages 6 and up

- Capacity: 30 persons per session


<Yeokgwan (Translator-interpreter)> Translate and complete diplomatic documents * On-site

- Location: Hwangyeongjeon Hall

- Time: 10:00 - 17:00(anytime) (30 minutes)

- Target: Recommended for upper elementary grades and up

- Capacity: 30 persons per session


<Chwita dae (military band) > Learn the musical instruments of Joseon’s military and join the parade On-site

- Location: Munjeongjeon Hall to Myeongjeongjeon Hall

- Time: 10:30/13:00/16:00(90 minutes)

- Target: Recommended for primary grades and up

- Capacity: 20 persons per session

<Children’s Puppet Show “The Fairy and the Woodcutter”>

A children’s puppet show of the Korean traditional folktale of “The Fairy and the Woodcutter”

- Location: Woldae platform of Tongmyeongjeon Hall

<Traditional Play “Lion Dance”>

Traditional Korean play performed throughout Changgyeonggung Palace

- Location: Changgyeonggung Palace

3) Tour Programs (reservations only)

<Royal Palace Youth Cultural Camp “Changgyeonggung Exploration Team”>

Explore Changgyeonggung Palace with our docent and complete missions

- Location: Honghwamun Gate, Changgyeonggung Palace

- Time: 10:00 - 12:00(120 minutes)

- Target: Recommended for upper elementary grades and up

- Capacity: 30 persons


4) Children’s K-Royal Culture Festival Special Event (May 3 (FRI)) *Reservation

 Janggo Mama Activity>

Become a Janggo Mama (court lady for jang jars) and make white ggakttugi (radish kimchi) from Joseon Period with Chosun Hotel chefs

- Location: Field next to Myeongjeongjeon Hall

- Time: 11:00/14:00/15:00/16:00(40 minutes)

- Target: Recommended for primary elementary grades and up

- Capacity: 30 persons per session

*Limited offer only. Reward presented to first 200 people per everyday.

- Admission time: Starts at 9:00 am, programs are for Free

- Reservation confirmation: K-Royal Culture Festival Information Booth, Changgyeonggung Palace

- Activity Book pickup location: by Myeongjeongjeon Hall of Changgyeonggung Palace

- Please bring identification of the purchaser for reservation confirmation. (Accepted identification includes resident registration card, driver's license, passport, ID card reissuance application, and alien registration card)

* Admission tickets can be transferred to direct family members and siblings only with the submission of supporting documents, such as the family register, and family relationship certificate.

- For programs that require reservation, being 10 minutes late will be considered a no-show and participant must sign-up on site.

 

- General admission ticket to Changgyeonggung Palace is required to participate in this event program (1,000 won)

- In the event that rainfall of 5 mm or more is forecasted by11:00 am, according to Korea Meteorological Administration, outdoor activities may be canceled. (A notice will be posted on the website in real-time and sent to individuals with a reservation.)

- All areas inside the palace are non-smoking.

- Food, flammable materials and play equipment are restricted for entry as part of the protected area for cultural heritage.
